Drug Interactions
If Prilosec is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Prilosec with the
following:
- Ampicillin-containing drugs such as Unasyn
- Cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral)
- Diazepam (Valium)
- Disulfiram (Antabuse)
- Iron
- Ketoconazole (Nizora
l)
- Phenytoin (Dilantin)
- Warfarin (Coumadin)

Less common or rare side effects may include:
Abdominal swelling, abnormal dreams, aggression, anemia, anxiety, apathy, back pain, breast development in males, blood in urine, changes in liver fu
nction, chest pain, confusion, constipation, cough, depression, difficulty sleeping, discolored feces, dizziness, dry mouth, dry skin, fatigue, fever, fluid retention and swelling, fluttery heartbeat,
frequent urination, gas, general feeling of illness, hair loss, hallucinations, hepatitis, high blood pressure, hives, irritable colon, itching, joint and leg pain, loss of appetite, low blood sugar,
muscle cramps and pain, nervousness, nosebleeds, pain, pain in testicles, rapid heartbeat, rash, ringing in ears, skin inflammation,

How should this medicine be used?
Prilosec comes as an extended-release (long-acting) capsule. It usually is taken once a day, before a meal. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacis
t to explain any part you do not understand. Take Prilosec exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Do not open, crush, break,
or chew the capsules; swallow them whole.

Precautions Before Using This Medicine
Before taking Prilosec,
- tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Prilosec or any other drugs.
- tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver disease.
- tell y
our doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Prilosec, call your doctor.
- tell your doctor if you use tobacco products. Cig
arette smoking may decrease the effectiveness of this drug.

What is this Drug
Prilosec is prescribed for the short-term treatment (4 to 8 weeks) of stomach ulcer, duodenal ulcer (near the exit from the stomach), and erosive esophagitis (inflammation of the esophagus), and for t
he treatment of heartburn and other symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (backflow of acid stomach contents into the canal leading to the stomach). It is also used to maintain healing of erosiv
e esophagitis and for the long-term treatment of conditions in which too much stomach acid is secreted, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, multiple endocrine adenomas (benign tumors), and systemic
mastocytosis (cancerous cells).
