Older adults¡XAlthough there is no specific information comparing use of nasal Nasonex in the elderly with use in other age groups, they are not expected to cause different side effects or problems in
older people than they do in younger adults.

What special precautions should I follow?
Steroid nasal sprays have, on rare occasions, caused perforations in the wall between the nostrils. If you have sores in this area, or have recently had nose surgery or trauma to the nose, do not use
Nasonex until the problem has healed.
In rare instances, steroid nasal sprays have also been known to raise pressure within the eyes and promote the development of cataracts. Use Nasonex wit
h caution if you have either problem. If you notice any changes in your vision, report them to your doctor.

How should you take this medication?
Nasonex comes as a spray to inhale through the nose. It is usually sprayed once a day in each nostril. To help you remember to use Nasonex nasal inhalation, use it around the same time every day. Foll
ow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Nasonex nasal inhalation exactly as directed. Do not use more o
r less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Shake the pump well before each use.
Do not spray Nasonex nasal inhalation into the eyes.
For the preventio
n of nasal symptoms of seasonal allergies, begin using Nasonex nasal inhalation 2--4 weeks before the beginning of the pollen season.

What side effects can this medication cause?
Mometasone nasal inhalation may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
- headache
- vomiting
- sore throat
- cough
Some side effects can be serious. The following symptoms are uncommon, but if you experience any of them, call your doctor immediately:
- wheezing
- vision changes
- yeast infec
tion of the nose or throat
- Mometasone nasal inhalation may cause children to grow more slowly. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking this medication.

Drug Interactions
Tell your health care professional if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription (over-the-counter [OTC]) medicines, such as:
- Ephedrine or
- Phenobarbital or
- Rifampin (e
.g., Rifadin)¡XEphedrine, phenobarbital, and rifampin may decrease the blood levels of nasal Nasonex, such as dexamethasone, warranting an increase in corticosteroid dose

Nasal Nasonex are cortisone-like medicines. They belong to the family of medicines called steroids. These medicines are sprayed or inhaled into the nose to help relieve the stuffy nose, irritation, a
nd discomfort of hay fever, other allergies, and other nasal problems. These medicines are also used to prevent nasal polyps from growing back after they have been removed by surgery.
